Makin makmur berarti fulus makin banyak, jadi mana bisa KOI harus
berpusing kepala mencari dana guna memberangkat para atlit ke Olimpiade
2012 di LOndon, ataukah apa yang dikatakan SBY itu dalam alam viritual
saja?

Budget Worries Hang Over Indonesian Fencer's Olympic Bid
Ami Afriatni | April 24, 2012
Diah Permatasari has delivered some welcome news to an Indonesian Olympic
team more worried these days with finding the funds to send athletes to
London.
The 20-year-old Diah became the first Indonesian fencer in 20 years to
qualify for the Olympics after finishing third in the women's saber event
at an Olympic qualifying tournament in Wakayama, Japan, on Saturday.
She beat Singapore's Nona Yean Hong, 15-14, in a third-place playoff to
qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from July 27 to Aug. 12.
The last Indonesian fencers to compete in the Olympics were Handry Lenzun
and Lucas Zakaria, who both jousted in the men's epee at the 1992
Barcelona Games. Silvia Koeswandi was the nation's last female Olympian
fencer, competing in women's foil at the 1988 Games in Seoul.
"That's a historic achievement for us," Khairuman, head of athletes'
development at the Indonesian Fencing Association (Ikasi), said on
Tuesday.
"We understand that it will be hard for her to come away with a medal in
London, but it'll be great if she can at least win the first-round match."
Diah became the country's seventh athlete to punch her ticket to the
London Games, after archer Ika Yuliana Rochmawati and five men's
weightlifters — Jadi Setiadi (56-kilogram division), Eko Yuli Irawan
(62kg), Triyatno (69kg), Sumaryanto (56kg) and M. Hasbi (62kg).
Four men's swimmers — Glenn Victor Sutanto, Indra Gunawan, Triady Fauzi
and I Gede Siman Sudartawa — have also reached the B level of the Olympic
time trial, though they are still trying to break into the A level to
guarantee an Olympic bid.
Officials will not know until May 3 how many shuttlers qualified in
badminton, which has produced at least one gold medal for the country
since the sport was officially included at the 1992 Barcelona Games.
Another prospect is Putu Wiradamungga Adesta, who will fight for an
Olympic spot at the Asian Senior Judo Championships in Tashkent,
Uzbekistan, beginning on Thursday. Upcoming qualifying tournaments in
athletics, wrestling and weightlifting could yield more Olympic berths.
"[Putu] will have to finish in the top seven to get an Olympic berth,"
said Irwan Prakarsa, head of athletes' development at the Indonesian Judo
Federation (PJSI).
Indonesia sent 24 athletes to the 2008 Beijing Games, bringing home one
gold medal, one silver and three bronze.
The National Sports Committee (KONI) hopes to better that achievement, but
Indonesia's Olympic chances could be in jeopardy if the government doesn't
provide the much-needed budget on time, a top sports official said.
"Until today we haven't received any of the money promised to us by the
government," the Indonesian team's chef de mission, Erick Thohir, said on
Tuesday.
"We badly need the money this week because we'll have to book flights and
hotels for athletes and officials. We also have to fund the athletes'
training programs."
Erick said the Indonesia, Olympic Committee (KOI) had proposed a Rp 26
billion ($2.8 million) budget for the Games, while the team also has Rp 12
billion in deals with sponsors.
"We asked the government to cut the bureaucratic process so we could get
the money as late as next week. We've been given a target to get at least
a gold medal in the Olympics, so we beg the government to support us," he
said.
Youth and Sports Minister Andi Mallarangeng said he would try to push the
Ministry of Finance to release the Olympic budget as soon as possible. "We've
been in talks with the Ministry of Finance to speed up the process. I
promise the team will get the money as late as early May," he said
